This week MH had 67 hours of volunteering thanks to Donna, Jim, Marge, Amelia and Bob.
We finished painting the barn and installing the hardware making the barn fully functional. We will be building shelves and benches to organize tools and equipment. We are making great use of the loft space to store lumber. All that is left to do is to paint and apply the trim board.
Join us this coming week on Thursday (see website) for the harvesting for Neighborhood House food pantry. We will gather in the morning and work through 1 or so till we are done. No produce last week but the previous week we harvested 70 lbs of greens and herbs.
Also join us on Saturday mornings at 10:00 am if you live in one of the 7 Near West Side communities . Come and weed, mow lawn, move mulch or what ever is needed and take home $20 to $30 of produce. Currently have mustard greens, collards, onions, swiss chard, green beans, zuchinni, spinach and fresh herbs available. Many hands make great work!
The pocket garden is starting to bloom. The perennial garden is looking exceptional.
Also completed were the cucumber structures. Intent is to get the cucumber vines off the ground and to hang cucumber beetle traps to stop the blight that cut short the cucumber harvest that we had last year.
Donations continue to come in. The CIP $4,000 matching grant donations now stand at $2,845. Only $1,165 to go!
Monthly donations are now at $160. Many thanks to the new donors. Please consider $5 or $10 per month and help us get to this year’s goal of $300 per month.
